El Jugador Inquieto

La jornada de hoy es muy especial para todos los que llevamos años vinculados al Magistral de León, pero lo es sobre todo para Marcelino Sión el mejor jugador leonés hasta la aparición de su alumno, Jaime Santos Latasa. Recuerdo el entusiasmo con que cuando en 2001 lo acompañé a una clase en el Instituto padre Isla de León me dijo: fíjate  en Jaimito, es buenísimo, resuelve problemas antes que los demás y es el más pequeño de la clase: el futuro GM tenía por entonces 5 años. Vinieron más tarde los éxitos en los campeonatos de España de edades en los que se las veía con su coetáneo el GM David Antón Guijarro, y los resultados en las simultáneas contra Topalov, Vallejo o un Carlsen de 14 años al que Jaime derrotó con tan solo 9… 
Y por fin llegó el día en que pudo debutar en el Magistral de su Ciudad, ese mismo torneo por que que había y habrían de pasar los mejores jugadores del mundo, apunto estuvo de alcanzar la final cuando perdió sendos desempates de rápidas ante Vallejo y Anand.
Hoy por fin, Jaime Santos Latasa, jugará la final de su torneo, del torneo de su maestro que tanto o más que él ha esperado este momento. 
Tendrá un rival de lujo nada menos que Lenier Domínguez, 5º jugador del mundo en la modalidad de ajedrez rápido, excampeón mundial de Blitz, mejor jugador del mundo de habla hispana… 
Un reto difícil, muy difícil… pero el sueño de Marcelino se hace realidad….

FINAL OF THE 2020 MAGISTRAL / Leinier Dominguez vs Jaime Santos.

Today’s event is very special for all of us who have been linked to the Magistral de León for years, but it is especially so for Marcelino Sión, the best player from León until the appearance of his student, Jaime Santos Latasa.
I remember his enthusiasm when in 2001 I accompanied him to a class at the Instituto Padre Isla de León, he told me: look at Jaimito, he is great, he solves problems before others and he is the smallest of the class: the future GM had then 5 years. Later came the successes in the Spanish championships of ages in which the now famous GM David Antón Guijarro was seen with his contemporary, and the results in the simultaneous ones against Topalov, Vallejo or a 14-year-old Carlsen whom Jaime defeated with only 9.

And finally the day came when he could debut at the Magistral in his city, the same tournament that the best players in the world had and were to pass, he was about to reach the final when he lost two quick tiebreaks to Vallejo and Anand.

Today at last, Jaime Santos Latasa, will play the final of his tournament, the tournament of his teacher that as much or more than he has expected this moment.
It will have a rival of luxury no less than Lenier Domínguez, 5th player in the world in the form of fast chess, former world champion of Blitz, best player in the Spanish-speaking world …
A difficult challenge, very difficult … but Marcelino’s dream comes true …
